Hi all...
long time lurker, but now I've a problem which I can't find the answer to in the archive... I need a proof of age for a C20XE vauxhall
engine... any ideas?
Haynes, vauxhall and the Heritage people were no good for various reasons. On one of the old posts someone mentioned a number to call to pay for a
certificate, but no number given...
any ideas gratefully received..
Chris
you need to ring a guy called Jonathon Bell At Vauxhall 01582 427288 or email
jonathonbell@Vauxhall.co.uk. IIRC the charge varies on which day you ring ie no set amount. good luck
Jeff
Why not just go into a vauxhall dealer and speak nicely to the parts man. He should be able to tell its age from his computer and so ask him to print
you a letter on headed paper that says this engine number is such an such old, get him to stamp and then sign it- sounds daft but satisfied the
unbelievably pedantic sva man that tested my car at Newcastle with its '93 Honda Fireblade engine. He was quite happy with it!
And nice Honda dealer man got a fiver!

Thanks...
The J Bell number worked - but 'no guarantee' and cheque to be made to him, not to Vauxhall - methins someone is making a bit of cash on the
side....
Chris
perhaps you could let us know how you get on with mr bell
Whip off your oil filler cap, or cam cover, and look at the cam caps, they have a year stamped into them.
Seeing as they are paired with the engine at birth and they can't be changed, they'll give you the year it was made.

Does anyone know if that will satisfy my SVA?
Chris
I know from a emissons/CAT point of view it satisfies MOT testers, so theoretically it should for SVA.
How much was he asking for? I emailled him a while back but wanted to make sure my engine ran ok before parting with the cash. He said the cheque
should be to Vauxhall Motors though....
Thanks,
Chris
He was after £50.... though I hear that it can go up to 75..... I may try to blag it with the dates on the engine as above, save a few notes!
