does any one know for sure if you need a locking petrol cap for the SVA? i am sure i have read somewhere that you do, but i can't find it in the manual....
Don't quote me but i think that the filler cap does either have to be a locking one if on the outside or non lockable inside a lockable boot lid.
Bob may be able to shed a bit more light on this.
The only light i can shed is that i've seen a car go through SVA without a lockable cap,BUT it did have a lockable boot.
All i know for sure is that the cap must not leak,so i can only guess a cap with vent is not allowed.
I'm going for a screw on ally cap and lockable boot, obviously a whole different game if you want aerocap on back.
maybe a call to the SVA helpline is in order
Dogbowl - the only way forward with escort lockable cap!
Soooo much cheaper than aero etc.

Mine has a locking cap in the locked boot and the tester never even lifted the boot lid, that was 2 years ago. He could see what he needed from
underneath on the ramps. I have read that if the boot is uncovered it will be tested but if it's locked it is exempt, no risk to the public.
yours, Pete
does Zeus fastenered count as locked?
Not sure about the lockable issue but as regards venting I was looking at the Honda Accord/Rover filler neck the chunky cap has built in vac release valve.
as far as I can see there is no mention of locking in then SVA manual. It does mention "positive retention" but surely a screw thread counts as this? Just to ask a previous question again, does Zeus fastenered count as locked and where is a good source of Zeus fasteners cheap?
Iam sure you need a locking petrol cap if it is not inside a locked boot. The way I look at things when deciding how to approach certain areas for the sva test is to think how these areas have be done on production cars. All production cars have locking petol caps of some sort.
A locking petrol cap is NOT needed for the SVA. I've just done my SVA today and it doesn't have a locking cap. I also checked with the test
centre before I bought one so its a Nope.
I got my aero cap from Europa for around £36.00 and it looks great.

well thats a relief, i was wondering how i was going to put a lock on a plastic speedboat tank...
This I find puzzling, how can you pass an SVA test without a locking petrol cap when it is a fail point for an MOT ?
(learn't that one the hard way a few years ago )

i didnt think it was a mot requirement, my car doesnt have a locking fuel cap. Then again, i havent MOT'd it since then...
a lot of modern cars no longer have a locking fuel cap because the flap is locked instead
This is an extract from a website for the UK MOT which can be found at UKMOT.com
FUEL SYSTEM
Any fuel leak will result in a fail. Checked under the bonnet and throughout the run of the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine.
• The fuel filler cap must fasten securely
• The seal in the cap must not be torn, deteriorated or missing
• No other defect should be present which could cause fuel to leak out.
I hope that clears it up for you?

TIGGER,
Thanks for that, as soon as i started to read this I thought SHIT!!
But that clears it up nicely thanks.
