The woman at the DVLA said last thursday that she would get someone who deals in home inspections to call me for an appointment. It's now Wednesday and u have heard nothing. Should i wait a few more days or give her a call to ask them to get in touch which is bloody annoying cos you gotta call the DVLA and choose the right option (not easy!) then speak to someone who then passes your info to someone in the kit car dept who then phones you.

(takes deep breath)

Why does it have to be so difficult!

oh and everything in this country is awkward people who run big organisations dont understand simple! tried tested etc!

I went in to my local office and asked for an apointment. they only inspect 2 days a week in Birmingham and the next inspection day was full. You may have to wait a week for an inspection date but that's after they've agreed to give you one. Ring them.

Our inspectors also only work a couple days a week but i would have thought that they would have phoned me by now.

I'll give them a ring.

Just got a phone call from the inspector and he's coming round tonight on his way home which is really good, what great service!!!

And he's been and is happy with everything plus he said i should get an age related plate.

Do you always need an inspection even if not getting an age related plate, its the bit of the registration process I never understood... You go for an SVA and get your MAC, why cant you then just get the car registered? Or is it just paperwork for paperworks sake?

The DVLA want to see that the car you are trying to register is what you say it is, for example they will/should put down 2 seat convertible and that sort of thing. So if the police are following or looking for your stolen car they know what to look for.

If you say it's a mini and then turn up in a tank they will not be happy.

But surely when you go for an SVA the MAC has all that stuff on (at least the test application form has), which is verified by the SVA man, so why do it twice? Sounds a bit odd to me.

I appreciate it must be done to satisfy those who say so anyway.

DVLA and VOSA are two seperate things....Ok not quite but each has a job to do and the job of the DVLA is to register the car for what it is. The SVA is to make sure the car is safe whatever it is.

It really depends on your local DVLA. No-one from our local DVLA in Sheffield has ever seen our Indy, let alone inspected it. The only times we contacted them, was to let them know what VIN number we had made up and the second time, to produce the MAC certificate, relevant forms for registration, a few receipts and the requisite fees. Job done.

Blimey, i would have thought they would have wanted to at least see the car! Oh well lucky you.

I had the same experince as Hellfire - again Sheffield, and twice!

They seem to think if SVA bloke sees it, that's fine!
