dvla apology
bigrich - 2/3/06 at 10:23 PM

recieved a letter of apology today from the dvla due to my car being incorrectly registered by them when new this caused problems re taxing and haveing to obtain mot at 12 months old. the letter states i will recieve and amended log book showing date 1st used as 3/3/2005 not 31/12/1992 and also states mot not req until 3/3/2008 also i recieved a phone call about the same with a verbal offer to re-emberse my now not needed mot test fee. so i would like to say thanks chris (mac1zr) for your initial letter to dvla & thanks dvla for a prompt and human response

It's nice to know they are human after all, isn't it?

I had a similar experience where they cocked up about the tax disc rate - apology letter, replacement disc and refund cheque no problem.

Well done to all involved - including the DVLA.

I had to get an MOT done, after passed SVA. Is this not the case?

How did you guys get it turned round?

Ben

I was told I needed an MOT but this was not the case and they reinbursed my test fee too. You don't need an MOT.

BMF who required you to get the MOT done. If it was DVLA then I'd get onto bigrich for a copy of his letter and then straight down to DVLA local office for X years MOT refunds.

Just to go over things again, after the SVA test, you do not require an MOT to register or tax your car. Then whether you are issued with a new, age related or Q plate, you do not require an MOT until your car is 3years old. If you are told any different by either Swansea or your local DVLA, please let me know.
And Big Rich, it was a pleasure to help mate !

just 24 hours later my new log book has arrived all the details are correct yippeee i just have to post back the old log book (in a pre-paid envelope) and enclose a letter and mot reciept i'll keep you all posted

I was also told I needed an MOT and spent quite a long time on the phone with VOSA ( who said I didn't need one) and DVLA who said I did and wouldn't give me a reg without one so in the end it was quicker/easier to go get one than sort it out.

When my car was completed last March it was MOT'd - more to check it over than anything else pre SVA. However, a certificate was issued. Does this mean that I do not need to get it done either this year or next and I can still tax it?

Many thanks folks!

I think you'll be stuck doing them now. The first MOT can be done any time up to 3 years from new. Ie you could get it done the first day rather than 3 years later. Once you start you have to keep going. Unless you can blag it with the dvla/vosa and get a refund and your car's details changed back. Which may involve just a few phone calls.

Hey thats a good point I was away to MOT mine prior to SVA but if I don't need it then I won't.
I'll get an "MOT" style inspection or pre MOT done instead (maybe)
