anyone know what the rule is for the SVA if I buy hose and fittings for clutch hose, i.e from master to slave cylinder, struggling to find anywhere near me that will do correct size to make up.

I don't believe there are any rules, just a visual inspection, checking security of items.

My ended up a complete hodgepodge and (likewise) when I find somewhere that can make a proper one (at sensible cost), I'll change it.

I don’t know about clutch but the brake hose to master cylinder has to be suitable for application and you need a spec sheet from the manufacturer to that affect.
