Side panel edge radius
Bluemoon - 28/3/06 at 09:01 PM

My side ali pannels wrap around the tube N2/1, but with only one fold. Do I need Hocky stick "J" extrusion ail to ensure the radius of the pannel inside the car is >2.5mm for the SVA?

Or is filling to 1.5mm radius o.k (thickness of my ali)?

I assume that the edges your talking about are not on the outside of the body, (ie there facing inwards), if this is the case, then the SVA man only checks the outside for sharp edges. Hope this helps, Ray.

I think they look inside the cockpit for radiused edges as well

I'm afraid he checks all edges regardless of whether they are inside or outside!

Even the standard Indy side panels do not really meet the criteria and alot of people have to file them down a bit but often the SVA man just overlooks it.

I would suggest with ali you would need to cover both the inner and outer edges but at the end of the day it's down to the SVA man's discretion.

o.k,

The outside edge is allready >2.5mm radius where the fold is so this should be o.k as is.

So it appears that the inside will need a hocky sick 'J' ali (inside the cockpit), to ensure >2.5mm radius.

Trouble is I don't want internal paneling, and the chassis members radius is <2.5 mm, which people seem to get away with. So I don't want to many "other" things that I might fail on...

no trims on mine, just gonna go and see what they say.

I am going expecting to fail. They are likely to find something so I may as well get a list, correct it all then jobs a goodun.

My mind's thinking along that line two.. I could spend a life time trying to get it water tight for the SVA, but it's probably quicker and cheaper to put a little bit of effort in but half expect it to fail to get a the list of stuff that actually needs doing for that inspector....
