.......of weighing your car for the SVA form, when the station weigh it again when you take the test?
They can even fail you if your weight is different!
The thing is that I now have to hire someone to take it to a weighbridge.
Anyone willing to do this in the Croydon/Mitcham area?
Beer or parts vouchers waiting !
Doesn't the SVA form want the MAXIMUM axle weights? I think I put 900kg or so for my exle weights which would be the maximum that the axle could hold without breaking
The form asks for the design weights for the vehicle: Axle 1 Axle2 Gross and Train Weights.
Leave it blank. They will let you fill it in at the test... or so i have heard...
Design weights are the maximum weights the car (axles) is designed to take...

SVA form is design weights. IIRC i put 450Kg for each axle. The only time this interacts with the test is after they get the brake erformance results.
the results are inputted into a PC spreadsheet with the design weights and this then gives you a pass or fail.
If in doubt either contact someone who has built identical car or phone VOSA and ask them what they recommend. i phoned the tester a couple of times
before applying and he was extremely helpful.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately mine is not a locost 7. It is as my avatar
We filled in the design weights, but left the actual blank - SVA bloke filled these in. Just make sure the design weight is WAY over actual, 450kg per
axle sounds reasonable.

Cheers, that will save me some time and money!
Don't go too far over with the design weights as these affect the criteria that the brakes are tested to.
If you say the cars total gross weight is say 1500kg the brakes have to meet a much higher speck than if yousay the max gross is 900kg for example You
need to be fairly close is what I'm saying.
The same applies to axle design weights
Thats what I was told anyway.
I got mine from STM and put that on the form 850kg. The actual weight at SVA was 555kg
I have just posted my form off with 450kg on each axle with the rest left empty.
Too late now if it is wrong!
In my test the man said my figures were wrong, suggested alternatives, then gave me a form to sign which covered the changes.
David
I looked at it this way.
My Brakes are Std Sierra discs all round, if it stops a ton of Sierra it will stop 600Kgs of Viento (as a worst case).
Best to take advice from VOSA.
Fortunately Luego had all the axle weight info on their website.
Maybee best for any Luego builders to get this info in case the site disapears.

You have obviously met Geoff
Update.............sent off my form/money etc. Vosa have written back and they want the Gross weight, so it looks like I will have to get the car
weighed afterall.
If each axle is 450Kg the gross weight is 900Kg.
I made a mistake on my form - 450 - 450 - 950!!!! He was close on asking me to get Mac#1 to write a letter to cover it but in the end allowed me to
change the form and sign the changes.
Cheers, I will do that.
I still have another issue to resolve and that is my chassis number.
I have to write to my local dvla office in wimbledon to confirm that my proposed chassis number is ok
Also Vosa have asked 2 more questions that I do not think is on the form which wanted to know if I had built the car or a company. They also wanted
to know which of the engine, transmission, bodywork etc that I have fitted myself or again if a company did it on my behalf.
Why the hell don't they ask these questions on the sva form?
