How much of the vehicle do I need to keep the index?
I'm not using the engine as its going to be BEC. Will the rest I need be enough?
Steve
3 major parts i believe
Jason
Back axle, heater & radio??
How many parts for an age related plate?

To keep the original index, you have to retain the original body shell, as well as the parts needed for an age related plate.
For an age related plate you have to use the original engine, clutch, g/box, axle/s, steering and wheels, if memory serves.
If an age related plate is a 'must have'. Then convert to a BEC, after registering it.
I should qualify for the age related plate as I have used most of the major componants from the donor
To qualify for an age related plate you must have used three major components from the donor vehicle. However, this is a bit of a grey area on the
V627/1 and open to some interpretation. You could say you have used the transmission, axles and steering assembly from the donor vehicle to qualify
for an age related plate. You don't need the engine and gearbox.
It is therefore quite easy to get a BEC on an age related plate.

I have used the engine, gearbox, driveshafts, steering colomn, brakes and hubs.
Will these qualify?
In a word, Yes
Marcus
Cheers!
Things are looking up!
Steve,
Which DVLA will you use? i know someone at Newcastle who took the car to DVLA for inspection after SVA. DVLA lassy filled in the paperwork and simply
asked what was used from the donor. The car was sporting a Kawasaki engine, when asked if this came from donor a simple answer 'Yes' got it
put down on the form and age related plate was issued.
My donor had 2.0 DOHC. I used Pinto from another source. Engine number wasnt on log book but Stockton said no worries as engine swaps are common and i
qualified.
You could always get the new engine and swap the number and capacity onto the log book before testing time comes round. At least then you have a log
book with correct numbers which serves as a reciept. After that you will be using diff, driveshafts, steering, brakes etc.
Dont forget to declare Sorn.
Shrewsbury wanted the see reciepts for my chassis, bodywork, lights etc in order for me to get an age related plate.
i also had to provide similar receipts but the V5 was acceptable as a reciept for the donor parts such as engine, transmission etc hence the idea of
making your donor the only 1.1 Sierra in existence (assuming you use GSXR1100 or similar). Use a blade and have the only 900cc Sierra around!!
Keep absolutely all paperwork. If nowt else you can flood them with papers so they dont look too deep.
At Stockton Kelly is really great but i doubt if she will know enough to spot a non-ford engine being used. They are more interested in numbers etc. I
actually told her that i used a different engine that was actually a Sierra engine but from a different car and she just accepted it as if it was an
unreported engine swap. She is a top bloke!
Found this on the DVLA website. Any comments??
D. Kit Conversions
This is where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle or old parts are added to a kit comprising a manufactured body/chassis/monocoque
bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result in a revised description on the registration document/Certificate.
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major
components are used.
If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis/bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together
with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An
ESVA/SVA/MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle.
Where there are insufficient parts from a donor vehicle or in cases where the original registration mark is unknown, an ESVA/SVA/MSVAcertificate will
be required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.

A bit to much confusion here. The DVLA statement sya TWO major componets.
I'm going the BEC route and wil be using the both axles, propshaft (transmission!) all the brakes, steering system, switches, wiring. As much as
possible basically except the engine and box.
I remember registering the Striker I built a long time ago and with a Fiat engine in I only didnt get a age plate because I didnt use a specific
donor, just found all the bits required in the scrappy or paper.
There must be someone who has gone down the BEc road who can judge??
What's confusing? You only need to use two major components from the original donor. Propshaft counts as transmission. Hubs, uprights,
driveshafts and diff count as axles and steering wheel, column and rack count as steering.
You have three major components there from the donor and therefore qualify for an age related plate. Provided you have the V5 as proof of the donor
vehicle.

Yes, thats what I thought. I have the V5, sorn certificate, current MOT and two old tax discs. Plus a receipt from Ebay
I also have taken loads of pictures while I dismantle the Sierra and I'm keeping the VIN panel. Photos of the body stamped numbers before I cut
it out and keep that as well.
The reg number is K21 PTN and I would like to keep it as it has been valued at £200 !!
Is it possible to sell it now? Will I get a new reg number if I sell it on??
[Edited on 29/4/06 by coozer]
You could sell the plate now, provided you follow the DVLA guidelines for doing so.
If you don't sell it, you will not be allocated the same registration number when you register your kit, only the same age related number ie, K
reg.

Hi all,
Just a follow on from this. and probably a very straight forward question but does the donor car have to be in MOT to get a non Q plate?
Appreciate it wont be by the time youve finished with it!
Welcome to the forum.
No, the donor doesn't have to have a current MOT to get an age related plate.
Phil
Well ive got no doner car, so looks like im getting a Q Plate!!!
Or could i fiddle the paper work to get a new plate, ie get some paper work for the recon engine and diff every thing else i have is new!
....or is there any other major component i can steel from a mondeo and shove in for now??
