sva retest 8.00am tomoz.Failed on 103db at 4250 rpm 2l pinto. Can we have a quick show of hands.....need some sleep,is that rpm 4250 too high my reference says 3500rpm

smart51 - 7/5/06 at 09:44 PM

I seem to recall that it is 3/4 of the speed at which maximum power occurs.

4250 is 3/4 of 5666 RPM

Buy a Rev limiter

PS.. dont know the answer, but will find out on Tuesday! (SVA for me)

Hellfire - 7/5/06 at 09:48 PM

IIRC, you have to state on your SVA application form, the RPM at which max power occurs. It is this figure which then determines the noise test at 3/4 of the declared RPM.

Does that make sense?

Phil

Thanks guys....goodnight

My engine revs to about 6000 (1.4 k-series) and Peak power is 4500.
So they should test at 3375 max?

russbost - 7/5/06 at 10:04 PM

Depends what you declared on the SVA form Martin - should have read my article more carefully!!!

westf27, good luck with the re-test tomorrow.

Phil

And from me!

thanks phil sorted all the fiddlys only noise level iffy.fitted a db killer hope it works.might ask him to qualify his rpm value if it fails as it appears my peak power rpm is 5500....3/4 of which is 4125

I put 4500 on the form!
Never mind, my car is quiet against 2 kwackers!

DarrenW - 8/5/06 at 09:07 AM

My tester ignored what i put on the form. Tested at 3,900 rpm but i was well within (approx 93dB).

Good luck - sorry this reply was too late to help you.

I put down 5500 on my form, guy let me sneakily change it down to 5000, it wouldnt have mattered in my case anyway, but i think if you've got a good argument you can use a lower value, mine was that it simply doesnt rev that high

Cheers

David

P.S 98db on one of those shiny cans i got last year.
