current year registration

i am looking for advice about how to achieve a current year registration (i.e. '56'
on a home built car

You need to build with all new parts (with receipts for proof)
One component (engine or gearbox usually) can be reconditioned to 'as new' condition.

Confusing it's catagory C Kitcars.
I think the "Certificate of Newness" they rattle on about only applies to imported cars.
One downside of (apart from the cost) is you will get tested at MOT for the current emissions standards.

mebbe so but you could get an older plate with zero-7 or oh-7 in the reg. for much less if you get an ager related reg.
I take it you can change the plate after wards if you have non-Q reg.?

There is a consulting document on the dvla website which implies you can't/won't be able to transfer age related plates to/from kitcars.

As I read the document, you can transfer a plate to a kit conversion, but the original plate issued after SVA, is non transferable. So if you've
been issued with a nice plate at SVA and want to sell / transfer it, TOUGH!

If your one component that is reconditioned is the engine which happens to be pre Aug 97 then you will not have to meet current emission regs but the
regs for that engine.

The way I read this is that you would not be allowed to put a NEWER plate on an age related plate vehicle!!!

For example at the moment if you have an age related reg of say "F" yoy could puschase a cherrished plate of say "X" they are

The way I read this is that you would not be allowed to put a NEWER plate on an age related plate vehicle!!!
I think you can at the moment due to the FIRST registration date being the date you register it.
For example at the moment if you have an age related reg of say "F" yoy could puschase a cherrished plate of say "X" they are
proposing that you should not be allowed to put a later than "F" plate on.
It should be that if you were allocated an age related plate (in my case J reg) then that should be the newest reg you could put on it. However, I
registered my Tiger Cat with a cherished number and have just put that number on retention as I am selling the Cat I have been given AY 51 NRV as the
new registration (first reg Feb 2001)!!!
And I thought the DVLA knew what they were doing!!

That's exactly what I'm saying.
At the moment this is exactly how their stupid system works.
They are proposing that this changes so that you can only put an older plate than the age related that you were first issued with.
