How big (acording to the SVA manual) do the chassis number need to be. I need to stamp the number on my chassis but before i do i want to make sure i
get it right.
Thanx
Not less than 4mm according to my SVA manual...
Section 22 of the manual, page 222.

^^^^^ exactly wit he said. Machine Mart sell 4 mm stamps.
... sight hijack, how permanently fix does the plate need to be - rivets or self tappers?
My main one is riveted, and glued with sikaflex!
Don't be surprised if your local DVLA man asks you to stamp the number somewhere else, as a backup (mine did - so I put it on the chassis member
just behind the radiator).
David
Mines riveted on drivers side under the bonnet, also engraved onto floor in front of drivers seat.
SVA was fine with the riveted version.
mine was a simple engraved plate from the cobblers shop
and it can be pop riveted each side
How big does it have to be - 17 digits i think
Sorry, couldnt resist. i used 8mm i think. They dont measure it - just have to easily be able to see it.
I think i'll call the SVA centre to see if i can put it on a plate.
Cheers peeps!!
Mine is stamped on to the chassis in three different places.
ditch
I've stamped a few onto plates cut from 16g for myself and others then welded them onto the chassis. They have all been o.k. so far.

The SVA inspector told me it had to be "permanently" fixed.
It is up to the individual inspectors to deceide what "permanently" means.
Mine would NOT accept screwed or rivited. It had to be welded or stamped into chassis.
Luckily I had all 3

I have just got off the phone to my SVA centre and the chap said that a riveted chassis plate would be fine
DVLA told me it had to be welded on.
Ive also put an engraved plate on scuttle panel and also wrote the chassis number all over the place elsewhere (some not visible until you take a bit
off). Kind of microtagging but not so micro.
