Got my tax reminder yesterday. It stated i need MOT. Tried to tax online and got bombed out due to no valid MOT. Phoned Kelly at Stockton (im pleased i kept her direct line number). She phoned me back within 15 mins to say shes been onto Swansea and they made a mistake. All i have to do is send my reminder with docs and payment and she will issue new tax disc and send log book off for me to get the MOT reminder taken off.

Thought id share experience with others who had the same happen to them.

MoT or NO MoT………in response to many enquiries on this subject, we asked our ‘guru’ on such matters, Ian Hopley, to ask DVLA for the official view. This is how this question applies to you at the moment:


"The current position is that DVLA WILL require an MOT after one year for cars issued with a ‘Q’ plate. They are looking to change this because strictly speaking, to the letter of the law, they can't ask for an MOT until the third anniversary of first registration. As the ‘Q’ plate will have been awarded for the first time, it counts as a ‘first registration’ - therefore, they can't really ask for one until three years…but they do! So, as it stands at the moment the following applies:

1. Kitcars with a "new" registration don't need an MoT for three years and don't need one at first registration.

2. Donor-built kits do NOT need an MoT at first registration but DO need one after one year.

3. Donor-built kits that retain the donor chassis DO need and MoT at registration AND need one every year thereafter.

4. Anything that gets a ‘Q’ does NOT need an MoT when the plate is issued but DOES need an MoT every year thereafter".

My lady defo confirmed no MOT for 3 years. Kit build from donor with age related plate.

I asked DVLA about this yesterday and was told that they didn't know because it was up to VOSA. I rang VOSA out of interest and they refererred me to DVLA.
