It states if i interpreted it right that you can place any sheet on the dashboard if it isnīt higher then 3.2mm, and if the curves are radiused..

I want to put this overlay on my dashboard (for my dash)

wich thickness / mods should i do on the part..

i know i have to brake the edges would i then pass sva?

Hi,

Assuming the panel is going to be fitted centrally on the dash (central to the transmission tunnel) and the lower edge will be at the same level as the lower edge of the dash, then the lower edge will need to conform to the radius rule of 18mm.
if the panel is less than 3.2mm thick then rounding off the edges should be ok, any thicker and you will have to conform to the 2.5mm radius.
To be absolutely sure of passing the test, having done the above, you could fit small rubber chanelling over the edge, which could be removed later if necessary.

If the panel is going behind the steering wheel, then you needn't worry as you have a projection exemption zone which extends to 127mm around the outer limits of the steering wheel.

I think the figure is 19mm. I believe that the radius can be less if it is padded.

Apparently you may well be ok with a padded dash edge so long as the padding 'give' when pressed with the finger is the same feel as the padding on a production car steering wheel (or so my sva examiner said).
The 19mm rad is the prefered way to protect your legs from impact in the upwards direction.

As for the edge of your panel being 20mm above the lower edge of the dash, so long as the panel edge is either rounded (if panel is below 3.2mm thick) or has the 2.5mm rad or some sort of rubber protection you should be ok. (thats the panel edge and not the dash lower edge)

At the end of the day, if it looks safe and there is no way an injury could happen if contact were made in the event of a shunt, then you should be ok.
