Horn Label
greggors84 - 31/5/06 at 07:36 PM

Does the horn have to be labelled for SVA?

The reason i ask is the steering wheel i plan to fit after SVA doesnt have a horn button so i was going to wire the horn up to the winscreen washer jets button.

I have to rewire the horn anyway, so if i can wire it up to the washer button it will save me doing it twice. I can cover up the washer jet symbol, either with touch up paint or tape, but not sure how to re label it as the horn if i have to.

u dont need a horn for sva

You don't need a horn for SVA and it won't be tested so don't worry.

Damn.

Odd isnt it?

There is no SVA requirement for a horn. But its an MOT failure...the system strikes again

Same as your tyres don't have to be road legal for SVA, as long as they have load markings they are fine

I've just got some of those 175 Dba horns.
Now I only need one of those old bus Bell Push Once switches. Cos people will Just push it once!

Pardon?

Another SVA "joke" is that you can turn up with bald tyres, as long as they have the correct speed rating. There is no SVA check on tread. Daft I call it. Cheers Chippy

say you are going to the SVA test and the
tyres are below the legal limit and you get stopped by the police is this ok as you are going to the SVA test ass it is prebooked.....

Marcus - 1/6/06 at 08:11 AM

No, to drive on the road, you still need road legal tyres. Same for the horn, if you drive it on the road, you need one.

My tester checked the horn... nearly deafened him!

(twin air horns)

This is absolutely fine so long as the bald tyres are on your kit car, and the kit car is being towed on a trailer.........

David Jenkins - 1/6/06 at 12:32 PM

But, as had been said before, if you turn up for the SVA with bald tyres, no horn, and whatever else you want to get away with, you can be absolutely sure that the tester will think you're taking the pee and give you no leeway whatsoever during the test - you'll have a fail list as long as your arm!

Of T'internet.

Trouble is you need a compressor the size of a bus to drive it. I am now looking for a Rover v8 Air Con compressor with a V belt. That should do it with an air tank.
