Anyone know what engine speed my Pinto makes maximum power.
I'm guessing about 5500RPM but don't want to tell them higher than necessary and make test harder still!
Cheers,
James
What spec is it?
If its standard its about 5500rpm. Otherwise it could be anything from 6k to 7500K depending on cam etc.
David
Standard!
Thanks Flak.
Only way I'm going to uprate that thing is by putting a different engine in!
So shall I say 5500 on the form or be a bit more conservative?
Cheers,
James
James, be a bit more conservative and bear in mind that your noise level is tested at 75% of declared RPM for max power. I'd knock another 500 to
1000 off that figure.........
How low dare you go?

Yep agree with Phil on this one James! Be a tad conservative, but not so much that they will question it!

What does the Haynes Little Book of Lies say about it? There's usually something at the front of the engine section that says
"nnn BHP at n,nnn RPM"
Or similar... they may say PS instead of BHP!

What's the max revs on a bog-standard Pinto? Max power will be a fair way down from that.
I reckon that you could easily get away with 5000rpm - I quoted 5000rpm for my x-flow, stating that the max revs was 5500. The tester didn't
seem too worried, but did ask me to hold it at 4k for the test - I was only going to argue if it failed (but it didn't - just about).

Right, well I'm going for max power at 4800RPM now.
Thanks everyone!

James
When I went to Derby the tester said " we test pintos at 4,000rpm." There was no discussion, it passed with 98db though.
My SVA in Aberdeen tested my Pinto at 4100rpm.
i put max power @ 5200 and had no probs with sva
James
I went the conservative route and put 100mph max speed and max engine speed was 4500,mine was sound tested at 3000 rpm and went through
I had a look at a Sierra Haynes manual - 5700rpm is max power! If the tester suggests 4000rpm, I'd agree if I was you!
rgds,
David
My tester didnt take any notice of what i put on the form. Tested noise at approx 4,000 rpm which equates to approx 5300rpm max power speed.
I was well below at around 93dB so nowt to worry about.
