Yup - spoke to him today as well about Seats and Harnesses.

What a top lad - he rang me back twice

So when's your date then Graeme?

I'm actually looking forward to it now - the hardest bit seems to be completing the bloody paperwork for the DVLA to register it @ Peterborough.

Am I missing something here?
Should I be trying / filling paperwork to get it registered before the SVA?

no mate do your sva first and you can fill in the registering forms anytime you want it dont make no difference but you need the sva cert to have all the docs

Thanks, got a bit worried then, I thought that the registering was just a case of taking the car? and or the paperwork to the DVLA with the MAC and sitting round for hours while they sorted it? or is that naive? should I be talking to them at all yet while I wait for SVA?

There's a big list of things to do:

best advice is here:

I've phoned the DVLA and whilst I wait for my SVA - I will complete the necessary paperwork and get everything in order.

Its not a simple case of getting MAC - rolling up @ DVLA and them giving you a number plate - there's inspections to consider, the correct paperwork, proof of this, that etc.

I'm just trying to get ahead of the game to give me every chance of being registered ASAP.

I had my SVA at Nottingham. The guys there are first class and made the whole experience less daunting. Both Andy and Martin are extremely helpful and do their level best to get you through.

I went to Nottingham DVLA after the SVA. I made a prior appointment with the DVLA inspector to inspect my car just after the SVA test. (my SVA was in the morning)
I took my mac cert together with all the relevent forms, the DVLA chappie (Dave Richards I think) helped me fill them in as some of the sections are not that clear to a complete nonce like me.
Assuming you pass, which of course you will, (pass or fail you can still go ahead with the dvla insp)
Make sure you take some i.d with you like passport , driving license, utility bill.
Because you should, after waiting an eternity, be able to pick up your reg No and tax. Sadly I overlooked this and had to do it through snail mail

Hint:
If the waiting room is packed (it usually is) then pick up your waiting ticket before the DVLA chappie does the inspection, it may save you time. The waiting time is usually in excess of one hour, he does the inspection, not the other stuff.

Good luck with the SVA.

Cheers

Dave

I did exactly the same at Nottingham SVA and DVLA. Dave Richards was very helpful on the phone beforehand - when I had my incspection he was away but sorted someone else to do it in his absence.

Do pick up a numbered ticket as soon as you get there.

Chris

Called DVLA Monday to try and get through to Nottingham to clarify testing and form filling arrangements.
basically they told me that they will not put me in touch with the Nottingham office, but I should drive the 80 mile round trip there and see them in person.
But the good news is, I was also told if I've got a big box of paperwork Imight not need an SVA test at all!!!!

I've now been give the contact details of the local inspector (thanks dave) I'll try hi wednesday and see how I get on....
