Sva fail at Mitcham, but not that bad.
Failures:
Needs a mesh Grill on rear engine cover to protect from sharp edges.
Rear Brake effeciency is 50%. Should be 60%. (requires re-adjustment of rear brake master pushrod)
Universal joint on gearshift needs radius edge (simple lathe job).
A bit of trim on a couple of missed edges. (about a foot in total)
Heaflights no good. Beam pattern wrong way round (Premier wiring budget set.....I shall be having words!!!!!!mad
All in all, not that bad.
Passed on everything else, emmissions, light positions, noise test, design weights.
Too much to remember right now, but Michael the examiner did everything possible to help and gave good sound advice.
Although a fail, I am pretty happy that nothing major!:
good effort, sounds like a sure pass next time round
The only worry is the brake adjustment....getting it right without a machine!
Took 6 hours for the test!
A pristine westie went home early with a bigger failure list than mine and it was built with factory parts!!!!!!!!!

Even Westies are only as good as the bloke who puts it together!
Mind you, I know of at least one Westie-related website that lists things to fix to get through the SVA.
Congratulations on that very short list, and good luck with the retest.

Just spoke to Premier wiring.
He said headlights can be change from lh to rh by tilting them so that the arrow on the lense is pointing to the 5 to 12 position.
So one job sorted (unless anyone knows different!)

Mine took 2 hrs!!! Why so long?
Good news on the fail, not bad at all.
I need 5 3/4" lamps (with integral side lights) because of the indicators on the cycle wings. If I fit 7" then the indicators will be
obscured when you look from the otherside of the car. (don't ask cos the measurements are in the sva book!)
Also forgot to mention roll bar padding. They want a permenant solution. Any ideas on flexible foam with a vynl type finish, like you use on dashboard
edging?

At least I know it is safe, it is just the loose nut behind the wheel now!
Don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, but my SVA took over 8 hours! 9am until after 5:30pm (at which point the office shut so I
couldn't book the retest)! But I did at least get a half hour for lunch.
Ahh the joys of the DVLNI!

When's the retest?
Yep, that sounds like the guy who has done all the 7's that I know have been through mitcham, he don't like 7's but sure don't
show it when giving help and advice
Well done on the test though

There are 2 SVA testers there and it was Michael who did mine. He liked homebuild cars over manufacturs cars because he said that they keep producing
cars with the same mistakes. In otherwords, some of the sva stuff, like suspension and headlight brackets could be better designed to reduce all of
the sleeving/bolt caps etc.
I thought he treated me very fairly and even used better judgement than the book.
Yep, it was Michael who did mine (and I was referring too)!
He had a trainee with him for mine, it was his last day as a trainee, and guess whose car he was being tested on? So in effect I had to
'please' 2 testers.

Are they good Quality Headlight Bulbs?
I was about to play hell with Andrew Pages when my brand new headlights failed the MOT on the Tin-top....
Turned out it was some of those cheap "super white" chinese bulbs that look so good and bright but have no beam pattern and just scatter the
light.
But well done on getting so close on the first attempt at SVA for such a project!

There is a proper beam pattern, it is just right hand instead of left hand.
Premier said to rotate the lense slightly. I will check it out tomorrow as I am at work now.
I rotated the lens on the headlamps today and the pattern does dip to the left now. Emailed the Michael at the sva and he said as long as the pattern
was correct then he would pass them
I also had a play with the brakes so I think I will need to get the MOT station near me to check to see if my changes to the bias bar will give me
the extra 10% effiecency I need on the rears and recheck my headlights.
I have still got to cover my roll hoop and I think that some vinyl cloth will cover the hoop and the top of my seat. Anyone fancy some car trimming
