Insurance, better to quote model as Locost?
James - 3/7/06 at 10:34 AM

Just got my first insurance quote.

With DVLA I've registered the car not as a Locost but as my surname (you never know how the car may change over the years, ). At the end of the day the chassis is bigger, Cymtrics'd and IRS so pretty different from a Locost

I therefore thought I ought to quote the same name for it's model with the insurance company.

Apparently this is a more expensive thing to do according to the guy there as the actual insurance companies like a model to tag it to.

Cheers,
James

I had no problems with Adrian Flux - they just made sure that they got the spelling correct.

David,

You told them it was a Locost then?

surely you have to tell the insurance company the name thats on the V5?

Otherwise I'll insure my Ferrari as a Fiesta

Yep - I gave the registered name, then said it was to the Locost design. He didn't query it at all.

I also told them the registered name and then told it was a "locost". Adrian Flux £88.75 fully comp.

The problem we have is that most of the specialist insurers are happy to quote on recognised kit cars but only a few, Adrian Flux being one will accept one off specials. I suppose a Locost is halfway between the two. I have the same problem with my car and although a rotten firm to deal with I more or less have little choice but to go to Adrian Flux.

James I was about the same for insurance. From all three -

It's all to do with area, age, adn value of car

(dd10, 32, 8.5k)

Just done mine with Adrian Flux

Fully comp
4500 miles
breakdown
agreed value of £8k (HA!)
salvage

£217.00

Not too bad. Bit more than yours James probably due to the post code. I have a Croydon post code which doesn't help. I can spit to the next post code!!!!
