Anyone got experience of either of these.

I'm pretty much in between both so could choose to go to either.

I took my tests at Yeading (passed 2nd time) The first test I knew I would not pass, after working thru the night before I simply run out of time and the engine was barely running! The first test did however produce a list of things I had not considered.

At the time of my test Yeading had a bit of a fearsome reputation but I could not fault them. Go there with the attitude that you know best and they will 'look for faults' go there with the attitude of the tester is there to help you and he l'ooks at ways to pass it'.
Very fair I thought. The unexpected things were - Tyres slightly protruded outside the rear arches (very slightly) had to cut 19mm 'spacers' to space out the rear wings (now removed) and the under dash area - this was a debatable point regs say that car should be tested for sharp edges etc from a line horizontal from the bottom edge of dash down. He wanted all the underdash closed off or all compliant. Had to make a hardboard cover for the underdash area (since removed). I quoted the reg to him about the 'Horizontal line' etc and he quoted back to me the reg that says (paraphasing) "The tester can decide to fail anything that he deems unsafe" this seems to be a catch all cause.

On the day of 2nd test noise level was slightly over limit but I could see the meter and dropped the revs to meet the limit! either he didn't notice or was happy to tick the box. The wiring to the back lights under the wing was unsupported between the back of the lamp unit and arch he wanted it held back with a 'P' clip halfway even though it could not possible have caught on the wheel and the steering wheel lock decided to not lock on the morning of the test. The tester said that if I go away and fix the last 2 items and was back in a couple of hours he would pass it. Hence the flurry of activity in Tescos car park!

One downside is the traffic around Yeading is very heavy in the morning so make sure your fan is working. My 2nd test was in Jan and it was -5c when I drove it up there had 3 cups of test centre coffee before I could speak!

Took my employers Westfield to Edmonton, found the tester very helpful even though it had problems with the emmissions he did everything he could within the regulations to get it through

I reckon Edmonton is easier to get to for me. I also know where it is so I think I'll give Edmonton a go.
