Krismc - 15/7/06 at 05:20 PM

Ive used mostly all new components on my car apart from my rear brakes(reconned units) and my engine, and a recconed diff and shafts, but i can provide a reciept for my engine to says its new or reconned and a recipt for the brakes to say they are new!

What should i do?? try and get a new plate or settle for a age related???

and if i do go for the new plate, what are the reciepts that i require to send off
????

I think the guidelines are on the VOSA website.

I think that if you have 75% of the vehicle from new and reconditioned parts (you can prove that they were re-manufactured) then you will get an age related plate. If you used a donor and the major components you use the donors registration. If you do it off the local scrappy and its a bitsa Q tastic.

I got a new plate using new and recond parts, kept every receipt possible (even those not directly related to the build) showed the nice man at the local VOSA office and following a cursory glance jobs a good un.

You'll only really know when they ring with the reg number.

The "rule" is that you are allowed one major component to have been reconditioned to as new standard, the rest of the car must be made from new parts. But hey when did the DVLA know the rules, go for it you might be lucky.

well my engine/gear box is new

so ill go for it and see what happens, it seems westfield and catheram always get one even though they use sierra parts and zetec/duratec used engines

Do Caterham and Westfield use second hand engines in their new cars? I know that Caterham got (and can still get) new K series engines. New Ford engines can be had easily enough. I bet they only use second hand engines in their kits not new cars.

If you intend keeping the car for a while, why would you want an 06 plate? Ok, the car looks a little newer/shinier etc, but you will be subject to all the current emissions etc rules, whilst a Q plate will only ever have visual smoke etc tests.

Kris

DVLA at Gosforth will give you anything you try for! I went age related with a bike engine.

For the inspection I had to trailer it there, the woman didn't even step up onto the trailer! Just asked me to show her the VIN and engine no, so I took bonnet off and she looked in. Copied down engine number and despite "Kawasaki" being cast into the engine, wrote origin of engine "Ford"

No inspection underneath to see if the propshaft had come from a different donor from the front hubs, nowt.

If you can provide enough receipts then you should get what you want, but as mentioned a current plate = current emmissions for life.

Mine has a 0 in the emissions section of the V5! Guess that's a visual smoke test only then?
