stulad - 13/8/06 at 07:16 PM

any help please my brakes hang from abouve so the cylinders are higher than the front of the car , im looking at mounting reservoir at the back of the car and running long pipes , see attached pic , can anyone else see a prob with this will i end up with air locks ??? going up and down, there is veryy little room under the dash , could have integral reservois if so are these sva compliant ??
many thanks see attached pic cheers stu

Stu, I had a look around and came up with these ...

.... which might be a better idea than mounting the reservoirs such a long distance away from the master cylinders.

You would obviosly have to devise some kind of level switch in the reservoir but a man of your talents etc ....

Cheers Raz.
met up with ur mate today, very nice guy.
thanks for the reply in super fast time.
you need to pop round again as i need help with this big style.
i will need to use 2 of them just for brakes, also they are under dash as you know , have put dash in place and it will need to be removable or a hole cut in as Andy suggested, going to leave pedals alone and cut panel out for throttle hhahah my life just gets better and better

many thanks , p.s were do i get them from and why 2 filler caps ??
cheers stu

im guessing rally design
(wilwood) i think maybe i need to take a drive there and talk to the guys about my probs

Stu

If you have a balance bar pedal box and need two master cylinders, these are probably your best option:

Yep, they should be able to help get hold of whatever Wilwood parts you need.

The two caps are for separate (dual circuit) brakes but I think you can have a single res option iirc which might simplify the level switch - maybe mounted in the cap.

A service panel would be ideal under the front section somewhere which might also help in getting to the loom if need be.

*edit* I forgot about the balance bar! You might be better off having a bias valve instead - this might be simpler but then again ....

Is there not some spare corner in the front for a pair of small reserviors? They don't take up much space. Half a shoe box size space would be more than enough. They could even be placed seperately if need be.

Hi Stu

You can get a top with the required electric level warning light bit - a quick wander around the scrappies will sort you out.

If you're desperate, I've got a pair somewhere which I used when I SVA'd my Fury. I was going to hang on to these just in case I go through SVA again sometime but you're more than welcome to borrow them.

Regards

Wyn

The problem Stu has is that the master cylinders are higher than all of the front end as they are top pivoted pedals & thus the cylinders are steering wheel height.

DIY Si - 13/8/06 at 09:04 PM

Ah, I see.

stulad - 13/8/06 at 09:10 PM

GTTMan has it spot on.
i moked dash up and there is very little room under it so lets say i cant get reservoirs under dash is an up down pipe going to be a problem ??
cheers

DIY Si - 13/8/06 at 09:18 PM

As long as you can remove all the air from the pipe it shouldn't matter where you put them.

stulad - 13/8/06 at 09:24 PM

i was told by a kit car builder http://www.klimcke-racing.com/
that the reservoires had to always be higher than the cylinders , but the car designer John said that they didnt he suggested just lifting them when i bleed the system. so no i dont know , i would rather not do long feeds to the rear but at the front will be lower than the cylinders.
in saying that if you pressure bleed the pipes and loose all the air as long as it never runs dry theer is no reason air or gravity should get involved .
just dont know what sva requirements are .
cheers stu

gttman - 14/8/06 at 11:39 AM

I've thought some more since we spoke and I'm sure the master cylinders are gravity fed from the resovior so is there not a risk that fluid will brain out of the master back into it if it is low in the front......... I think the only options are under the dash like I am doing or in the rear is allowable.

BTW did you know that Wilwood also do some very similar pedal with the masters behind the pedals and thus quite a few inches lower?

stulad - 14/8/06 at 12:51 PM

Mhh Thanks Andy , I have spoken to Rally Design who have confirmed that the reservoir must be very slightly higher than the cylinders, even a none return halve wont help.
they also have said that a long run to reservoir is pants also because of delay and back feeding.
soooooooo i will have to find some space under the dash.
Many thanks for everybodys help , will use this cylinder with combination installation possibilities http://www.wilwood.com/Products/006-MasterCylinders/002-CRMC/index.asp
