Fog and hazard warning switches

I understand that these switches need dash warning lights, but do they need to be labled in any way for SVA?

I'm interested to see the replies here!

I don't think they do, as I can find nothing in the sva manual that says the switch must be labelled.

It says the foglight must have a telltale (but not that it must be labelled) and that the hazards must have a telltale (again nothing about labelling, and it specifically says that using the indicator talltales is ok as well)

Thats what Im finding, ie nothing!!

Want to use water proof switches due to building a BEC, but the only ones I can find are universal toggle switches and therfore no labelling, hence the question!

The switches or the lights????

My fog switch (savage) has the backwards D and crossed lines normally associated with a fog light and it iteself illumites when in use.

My hazard switch (also savage) also illuminates, and has the warning tiangle on it, when in use and flashes on and off in time with the normal left & right hand signal indicator lights on my bright 6

i dont know whether the symbols are a reuqirement of the sva test

I think it's ok to have the tell-tale separate from the switch, not sure if they need labels or the pukka symbol (though I seem to remember the brake test light needs the proper symbol - not got the SVA manual in front of me )

Remember that toggles need to go in the exempt area near the steering wheel (unless you use a funky guard to prevent them being touched by the inspectors measure.)

Found a picture of the the remembered 'funky' guard for toggles in the interior from this thread.

My car passed SVA without any markings on the fog light switch or associated tell-tale light.

However my Hazard Warning switch is switch/light in one unit and has the usual traingle marking on it.

In fact no markings on any switch (except hazard warning) and no marking on any light except the handbrake/low brake fluid light.

I passed SVA on Friday ! I used standard sierra column and switch gear so it has hazard markings on the red button. The only other tell-tale I labelled was the low brake fluid light. You can get stick on adhesive back symbols for everything on a big sheet from vehicle wiring products I have a whole sheet if you want it, minus the brake one obviously...

edit : just read this again, my fog light was one from VWP again and has the tiny clip in plastic lens which has marking on it aswell. So not much use Im afraid.

Its only a few quid for the sheet so may aswell just mark them all up anyway ?

AFAIK none of the switches or warning lights need symbols, even the hazzard flashers. I am pretty certain that if you have "handed" indicator warning lights that flash together, when the hazards are on, you don't even need a seperate hazard warning light.

My tell tales passed, they have no markings on them, except the handbrake light, but that was coincidence rather than anything i was told to do.
