Just read this news article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/5300498.stm
It looks like that since 2003 there has been some extra EU red tape that says that scrappers need to issue a 'certificate of destruction' to
the owner when 'disposing' of their car. I've never heard of this before and it looks like the scrappers in the UK have been ignoring
the whole thing - I can't blame them as there is far too much paper work around building/fixing/testing/insuring/taxing/scrapping of cars as it
is.
I guess my concern here is that if things are tightened up on this, what happens to those of us who have had their donor car 'disposed' off,
but still hold it's identity on SORN?
Just got visions of me turning up for my SVA, only to be asked "Have you go the certificate of destruction for that sierra then?"
Anyone know any more about this?
The scrapper who took mine away couldnt read so maybe that has something to do with it.
Come to think of it he couldnt drive either.
LOL

This is so full of loop holes it's un-true.
There is no timescale indicated as to how long you have to keep the "CoD", so just say "yes I got one when I scrapped the car, but then
I put it in my recycling bin after a year!"
The ATF (Authorised Treatment Facility) does not have to issue the certificate straight away, but can post it out to you. "It got lost in the
post officer!"
Hmm another brilliant scheme cocked up by the half wits in charge of this country!
Carry on as normal everyone!
Mike
well, in holland they have the same,
if you don't get the paperwork for scrapping, say a sierra to build a striker, you'll have that sierra registered to your name and still
have to pay roadtax even when that sierra don't exist anymore, funny thing is you'll then also have to pay road tax for your new
striker.....
just watch out they're not going to do this on your side of le cannal. otherwise it'l be an expensive drive.
grtz Thomas
your side of le cannal.
