get ready- seat belts mounts

i was going from memory (obviously bad memory) and drill my crush tubes and tapped them to m10 thinking that was what the sva manual wanted.
thing is is says you should use a suitable fixing "for example a bolt of at least 11mm (7/16) 8.8 grade or equivelant" so the size doesnt seem to be set in stone. just wondering if anyone has passed with m10 12.9 grade bolts on their harnesses?
im going down in diameter and up in strength but i expect most sva men are going to be perdantic.

They do use measuring calipers if they suspect something.

ive got no intention of hiding the fact that they are m10, dont see the point because m10 12.9 grade bolts are probably stronger in sheer than 7/16 8.8, just thinking the sva man wont be able to see past his little manual thats all, even then the manual is open to debate on this.

Where is it open to debate? It clearly states that the bolt must be 11mm or equivalent and at least 8.8 grade. 10mm won't fit the holes in your seat belts.

I agree with you that "for example" and "or equivalent" don't strictly mean "the bolts MUST be of that spec" but in practice I suspect that the testers are going to go for that spec. If they don't, who is going to be able to prove, if necessary, what is equivalent?

I used the bolts as supplied with the harnesses that were secured into threaded tubes welded onto the chassis. This meant there was no iffy points ref crush tubes abd bolt strength. I suggest you use correct mounting points and bolts as supplied to be safe.

Interestingly, whilst my top mounts are easily seen, the tester did not remove the nut covers to check the bolt grade neither did he make me remove the seats to see the lower mounts and bolts. I guess they looked correct and didnt raise suspicion.

oh well, looks like im gonna have to bite the bullet and re-drill them. 2 of them are in an awkward place so it was a last resort. i guess its up to the tester at the end of the day regardless of what the manual says.
