Exhaust Teats during SVA
Johnmor - 16/9/06 at 04:11 PM

What sort of test can i expect for a 1990 engine. the thing is i have had to insert packing material into the exhaust to reduce the noise and have just realised that any test probe may be difficult to insert into the exhaust tail.

I used a DB killer and then had to insert further packing to reduce the noise to 100 db at 3700 revs.

Is it a visual test or is that wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. I thnks it's soemthing like <4% co, and soemthing about HC, but can't remember. Also, the tester will need to be able to insert his probe or he may fail you!

I must admit that I expected something else when I saw "exhaust teats"...

Yes my typing not what it could be.

May have to rethink, and pack middle box.

cheers.

I thought that if you were going for a Q plate it was just visual... or is that only at MOT?

I would suggest fitting a silencer to your exhaust system if you've done all that work and still got 100db @ 3,700 rpm.

Seriously though, what silencer do you have fitted at the moment and how are you measuring the noise?

engine test for SVA and MOT are 2 different things, at least for the time being.

SVA test engines to emissions according to engine age; you need to provide proof of age at the test.

MOT with Q-plate ( age inderterminable)will have to test it according to visual ... but sure I've read somewhere that even MOT could use engine number to determine the age and use the approprirate test; may be something that will be brought in?
