Wrote to Pompey DVLA on Aug 29th asking them to confirm I could use my chosen (made up) chassis number or if not to issue me with one I could use. 3
weeks later and no response I call (Via Swansea to chase ) to chase. "No sign of your letter here mate, but
we'll get you everything you need in the post today so you'll have it tomorrow" BULLSHIT!
Call again today (again via Swansea ) and get told - " no record of anything being sent to you mate"
If they are trying to make it difficult they are doing well so far
I feel for you.
But try not to get into slanging matches with them even though they may not be doing their jobs.
They can make your whole SVA and registration process a real pain in the arse.
Whereas you cant even get close to doing the same to them.
Good luck anyway.
Steve.

Recorded delivery letter.
Use exeter, I had plates and tax within 90 minutes of passing SVA - superb service.
Funny old world, I used Portsmouth, couldnt have been more helpful. Mind you did take a slightly different route, I went there and delt person to person. Initially said I couldn't use my own made up Vin number, but after seeing it was stamped all over the car agreed to it being used. atb Ray.
Dont know where you sent your letter to but i sent mine to Stockton (my local) addressed to Kit car expert. She phoned me the very next day to run
through questions and make appointment for home inspection.
Might be worth another letter, can you hand deliver?
Other option is if someone else went thro Portsmouth and kept record of a name and phone number.
I didn't think you had a choice in which office to use. Mine checked my address to make sure I was local.
After getting them to call me back on my mobile I now have a direct line to them
Spoke to a more helfpul bod today who has gone off to verify whether I can use my preferred chassis number or not.
I'm waiting with baited breath
