Private Number Plate

I've found a plate that would suit my car nicely on Newreg.co.uk which is under £200. How do I get this reg into the system so I can put it straight on my car after SVA?

Just buy it and ask them to stick it on retention. It will cost you an extra 25 quid I think. You'll then have a year to put it on a car.

Also, before you buy from newreg, make sure the dvla aren't selling it direct for less. Newreg and the like often advertise plates they don't own.

I take it you're going for an age related plate when it's registered Raz.

Good luck

The DVLA price is normally inclusive of everything though - Tax, transfer etc...

I've found often that the other sites seem to be cheaper but when you follow it through (Buy now...etc..) they add VAT, transfer fee (£80 IIRC) , etc...and it ends up being loads more!

My father saved £200 plus when he bought from the DVLA direct with exactly this issue. Another site seemed cheaper but by the time the taxes were added....Price soared! Same plate too - a DVLA one anyway!

Cheers

Aha I didn't think about that!
Thanks for the tip

Just a thought - how do people get special plates pre booked on a correct year reg number? For example I know the letters I want but can I get them on a 2007 plate?

At some point before the new number identifier comes in the DVLA start selling them - I think it is about 3 months before, so for an 07 you should be able to buy it in December or so. Sure the DVLA site will confirm this somewhere.

(Sorry for the kinda thread hijack) As a follow up to the new plate discussion, I've been wondering, as I'm building a car from various parts and not just a donor, I'm guessing I'll have to have a Q plate, but is it possible to get a brand new plate?

RazMan - 18/10/06 at 02:27 PM

The quick answer to that is no - to get a new plate you must be able to prove that you have built your car with new parts. You are allowed one component which has been rebuilt to new spec (usually the engine)
