Hello, the V5 for my car currently says its a 'Locost', which was originally correct. I added an MK rear-chassis and suspension to it and
now intend to fit some MK bodywork and may be front suspension.
Can I easily have the V5 amendend to show the make as MK without having it re SVA'd or registerd.
Thanks
I don't know the definitive answer but my instinct is to say that you can't just change what the car is called on the reg doc.
Despite the changes you have made to the car it is not really an MK. You could only call it that if it was an MK built chassis etc.
If you call a modified Locost an MK then I would have thought MK would not be too happy about it.
Just my 2p worth
Cheers
Mark
I doubt it's possible to change the manufacturer on the V5 as a new manufacturer would imply a complete rebuild/identity.
In theory major changes to the chassis require a new SVA. But without any clear definition of what a major change is it's a grey area.
I agree Mark, it isnt really an MK as such although they did do all the alteration themselves.
Its just more of a theoretical(?) question at the moment. I wouldnt register as an MK without there say so.
for my money it's not worth rocking the boat withthe DVLA, leave them alone and enjoy driving it

There's nothing wrong with it being a Locost is there? I wouldn't push it as if you tell them all the changes you've made they may decide it's a different car and send you for another test.
Registered mine as a Bennett - that way if it happens to be dismantled and built into something completely different.................
Not that I would even consider using it as a track car and building another!!
