I'm replacing my rear lights at the mo, just wandering if you need a rear fog light for mot?

Not if you're on a "Q" plate

isn;t this one of those age related things for MOT?
but I' pretty sure you need it f or SVA, whcih it sounds you don;t have if you are talking about a q-plate so why take if off later for MOT?

Yes required for SVA but if on a "Q" plate the vehicle is treated as pre 1971 therefore no rear fog (or hazards) required. Many testers are ignorant of this & you have to point them to the relevant section of the manual. As he said "replacing rear lights" I'm assuming SVA is already done, hence MoT only requirements to worry about.

Where does '71 rule come from??? I have a 1979 series 3 landrover which has neither a fog lamp or hazard lights fitted....or for that matter side repeaters. Never had a problem at MOT (plenty of other things wrong but never lights!) Oli.

I think he means the Q plate is based on 71 rules and regs at MOT time Oli.
Fog light became mandatory around the late 70's (79 I think off hand)
