Seatbelt Bolts
iscmatt - 24/1/07 at 10:08 AM

does it matter if the seatbelt bolts are done up tight? or do they have to allow movement of the seatbelt? this question aplies to all four points of the seatbelt?

Cheers Matt

My belts came from Mac1 with a top hat bush which allowed you to do up the bolt tight, but still allowed the belt to move.

yeah i have two of this type o bolt but they are the wrong size. just wanting to know whether it is a fail if the seatbelts cant move from under the bolts?

macnab - 24/1/07 at 10:25 AM

I think that would fail as the belt can't move to the correct angle it will not transmit the load properly. Loads of free seat belt bits in the scrappy...

this is what i thought, cheers!

what is wrong with the size? wrong diameter or wrong length?

the bolts are somethin like 7/16 UNF (some imperial fine thread anyway).

I may have a couple in different lengths.

forgot to say - there should be some top hat bushes that allow the seat belt mounting to move.

the wrong size i mean the bush part is to wide.

Does anybody know whether these bolts fit an mk indy? also where to get them from?

the bolts are somethin like 7/16 UNF (some imperial fine thread anyway).

yes me, or is it a trick question?

dunno what you mean bush part is too wide? The botls shold have a thread and unthreded section (called shank I think). All the eat belt bolts I have seen, Sabelts are this imperial size, bloody stupiid since metric is easier but ......

The origignals for the belts have larger head than the standard bolt but the smaller heads will be fine.

Also Namrick do these botls + ebay no doubt.

the bolts are all the same thread size, its a special thread for the high load and specific size and type are requirements for the SVA. Whats different is the 'top hat' outside diameter that goes in the hole on the belt fitting.

Most harness bolts are 7/16 UNF. Some newer designs (Sabelt QR harnesses for sure!!) use 8mm... Which is a PITA when your chassis has 7/16UNF captive nuts....

what i mean by the bush part is too wide is that the bolts i have, the "top hat BUSH" (which is what you called it) has a larger diameter than the holes in my willans seatbelts.

How did this simple question become so complicated!
