you don't need it for mot either, tho if you do have it, it should be securely fixed.

my dad used to have the spare wheel in the boot and just took it out for every mot. the fixings for it had corroded on the car as they were underneath the car at the back

Dont need a spare for anything full stop, in the legal sense.

If you get a flat tyre it can be a help. Although does anyone who carries a spare have the tools to change it in their car? (i am talking Locosts now). My toolkit is on the things-to do list, and its very long!

BMW minis have run-flat tyres which are designed to get you far enough to get a new one fitted at a max speed of.....err... NO! sorry cant remember. But its nots as slow as you might think.

Apparently, according to a recovery guy i met the other day, (yes i broke down!) X5's dont carry a spare either and have the inflator stuff mentioned above.

my step son is a special constable and also works in police control room.
i mentioned this question to him and apparently a spare wheel is not a legal requirement.
he maintained that because the police cars carry so much equipement they dont carry spare wheels

My car runs on LPG so I binned the spare wheel for gas tanks and a can of foam.

When I had a puncture, typically nail in the side wall so tyre is trashed, squirty foam failed to fix so called the RAC.

They refused to collect me as I did not have a spare on board, very unhappy bunny as the level of cover includes travelling in someone elses car ......

I throw the spare in the back now !

Luckily I think my locost will be so light with only a couple of pounds of pressure it will trundle about.

when the charging cicuit in my locost went kaput the other day the breakdown bloke was filling out his paperwork and asked me if i had a spare, tools to change it etc. errmm...yes!...but please don't look!
