Just seen this in the MI5secuerity email jobber
Increased fines and endorsements for mobile phone use, whilst driving.
quote:
From the 27th February 2007, the penalty for using a hand held mobile phone while driving will increase to 60. Section 26 of the Road Safety Act 2007 provides for the offence to be an endorsable offence, carrying 3 penalty points.
There are four offences relating to mobile phone use, are as follows:
Cause use of mobile phone while driving motor vehicle on a road
Permit use of mobile phone while driving motor vehicle on a road
Use mobile phone while Supervising L driver drive motor vehicle on a road
Use a mobile phone while driving motor vehicle on a road
Maybe someone should point that out to some of the instructors who seem to be on the phone through alot of their lessons

Fine should be more IMO. Again today, I nearly got hit head on by a Lorry 'cos he was on the phone, drifting over the centre line.
I wonder how intereested t he poplicewill be if you report someone using a mobile - if you can provide a time, location and reg. number the police
shhould be able t o trace the driver, get their mobile number than check up with the phone company to see if the data tallies (since the time the
call is made is receored and probably the base station so that ocation can be verified).
I cycle past loads of these b***tards who are on the phone instead of paying attention
Number of big Merc/BMW/Landcuiser drivers using hand held mobiles is about the same But the number young females using mobiles on the road is
increasing many of them are texting !
One good thing I have noticed is builders van drivers seem to be doing it less.

True Story --
My window cleaners son lives & works near Milton Keynes, last July he was on is way to work when got a puncture, he pulled the car as far on to
the verge as possible and was taking the spare wheel out the boot when he was struck from behind by car driven by a youg woman who was putting on her
make-up.
One of his legs was so badly injured it was only attached by one tendon. Thanks to good treatement by paramedics, surgeons and medical staff it was
saved, but he only was allowed home last week and wil need constant care for a long time..

I was nearly mown down by a lorry driver reading a map spread out on his steering wheel. He was coming from the opposite direction and didn't
take a bend, he just kept straight on and I had to go up a bank to miss him. He swerved and straightened up and carried on going, never stopped to see
if I was o.k. but I was apart from palpitations. There were no other cars and if I'd gone a bit further and through the hedge it would have
looked like I'd nodded off at the wheel and caused my own accident. Why just increase them for phones?

Great! So instead of being able to text with the 'phone up near the dash, I'll have to try to look at it under the steering wheel. That must
be dangerous?!!
And why wasn't smoking whilst driving banned? My mates dad crashed when he tried to light the end of his nose with the ciggyy lighter andanother
time he ran off the road when he tried to flick a tab-end out of the window but it blew back in and tried to set fire to his seats........
I'd like to try to drive a test track whilst on the phone just for a laugh!
or how about this one -
i can fiddle about putting a cd into the stereo, but i cant press 2 buttons and loudspeaker to tell my missus im coming home late? The law is
unworkable. Im all for safe driving, but its just ridiculous picking mobile phones out of all the other things people do in cars - some people drive
around with fire waving about, filling the car with smoke!
Or how about bluetooth satnavs, if you dial via the sat nav you're ok (but looking down) but you cant pick the phone up and do it direct?
