SVA fail at Soutampton
nick205 - 28/2/07 at 03:05 PM

Just back from my SVA at Southampton test centre. The car failed on...

1. Speedo - not working
2. Emissions - running rich
3. Sabelt harness mounting plates - exterior radius
4. Under dash - rivets where battery tray is rivetted to the bulk head/scuttle

All in all pretty to easy to rectify in the next week or so.

For thos that know Southampto I had Mark to test the car. Top bloke, very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic for the car to pass. His overall assesment of the car was extremely positive.

I'm well chuffed

Also driving there and back was the first real drive I've had after nearly 4 years of building so that was brilliant too. Heading straight out onto the motorway was a bit daunting - HGV's a feckin' hooooooge

anyway enough waffle I'm off to the garage to start fixing

Been wondering how you got on Nick.... all in all a very good fail, if you get my drift!

'Good' as in very easily/quickly do-able!

Well done!

Whens the re-test?

what was the speed roller like? 2 seperate ones or one big roller?

flak monkey - 28/2/07 at 03:39 PM

Nice one

Do the rivets on the tray protrude below the chassis rails?

David

Well done Nick. Wont be long now to get it all sorted.

Ref emisions - i found a local mot place that was friendly and allowed me to use their gas tester to tweak the settings. At SVA a further tweak was needed but the tester handed me a screwdriver for that. As soon as it was in limit he hit the button and passed it.

You have one of the best fails me thinks, as you say shouldnt be hard to sort now. Retest next week??

joolsmi16 - 28/2/07 at 03:46 PM

Why did you fail on rivets on the bulkhead???

Hammerhead - 28/2/07 at 03:50 PM

nice looking car mate. Good luck with the retest.

Hmmmmmm nice build

Like the colour, but then I'm biased. Will you park next to mine at kitcar shows.......gives the bugs a choice on where to settle.

Very well done.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Nick,
well done, that is a good fail if there is such a thing.
Pretty straight forward to put right. Just in time for the summer.

It's where the battery tray is rivetted to the ally panel on top of the footwell. I should be able to blob some PU sealant over the backs of the rivets to cover them.
