Tintop MOT/roadtax issues

My road tax expired on the 1st of April....
I took it to be MOT'd on the 30th March where it failed...
I have now fixed the two fail points but the garage cant/wont retest until thursday...(even though its only a 5 min job)
My question is....Because I have no road tax, and havnt declaired the car off the road am I going to get fined and go to hell?
Whatsmore, can I still semi-legally drive the car around until thursday where it will pass its MOT with flying colours and then I will go straight out
to get new roadtax?...
Im screwed without a car...(yes in hindsight I should have got it MOT's sooner, but I forgot!)

If your MOT has expired you are not allowed to drive on the road except to an MOT centre for a test - even though you have carried out the work it has
not been checked and therefore your car has not been declared safe. If your previous MOT had not yet expired this would not apply.
As for not having tax until the 5th of the month, it is unlikely you would get fined, although technically driving or storing the car on a public
highway would mean you could be.
You could always try an alternative MOT centre, but they may fail the car on something else.....

If you book a retest so that the MOT station has a confirmed booking, then you can legally drive to the MOT station.
If you you get your car re-taxed from the 1st april, then there will be no problem either.

I cant easily take the car to another garage, as I only want a partial re-test...and not have to pay for it...If I go anywhere else im going to be
looking at having to pay the entire fee again...
So basically...unless I am physically caught by the coppers I cant get introuble for driving on the roads? (no speeding, no crashing lol) My big
concern was that the DVLA computer would see that my tax is out and would automatically send me a fine....

Just make sure the MOT station has a booking for you, then the Police can check if necessary.
This is perfectly legal.

To beat 'The Computer' if for example you have driven for months with no tax. Simply go to the DVLA and hand in a SORN but put the date that
the tax ran out as the date for it to start. This then goes in to their records and if asked (ie. nasty letter demanding money) tell them to look at
their records, where of course they find the form with the date you put, they can't seem to tell if its been held up in they're system or
not. Then the following week re-tax the car a normal. Easy.
Works for me

Legally, you will not be covered by your insurance without either valid tax or MOT except for the journey to your booked test.
If you have a crash, even if not your fault, you will be in serious doo doo.

Hmm...thats what I suspected...
Its just so damn annoying that the silly woman sitting behind the desk at the garage thismorning wouldnt get off her lardass and go and ask the tested
if he could fit it in sometime...
Seriously..how long does it take to check that the rear wheel bearing no longer has any play and that the front wishbone has been replaced FFS!!!

Since they Computerised the MOT test, it aint THAT simple. The computer system will ONLY allow A tester to do X amounts of tests PER day. If that
ammout is exceded then he is locked out. END of STORY.

As Nitram says, your insurance will be technically invalid if you've no tax as well and its not allowed to sit on a public highway, that includes
the pavement. A bit of info for you though, try ringing the DVLA hotline number up and reporting your car parked on the road with expired tax.
They'll tell you that it takes 15 days for their computer records to be updated.
