Just wondered if anyone knows the answer to this:-

Car built five years ago all new parts except engine. Passed SVA five years ago but never registered for the road.

Can it be registered now on a 07 plate or does it have to be 02 plate or even a q plate. Also does the SVA pass certificate have an expiry date as it was five years ago?

1. Can it be registered as on 07?

If you have all the receipts for the new parts then there is no reason why not (IMO, dvla employees may vary depending on phase of moon). As for 02/Q depends if you have a V5 for a donor.

2. Does the MAC expire?

I honestly have no idea, but it seems a bit strange paying >£100 to get one and then not registering, so it might make the dvla check a bit harder than they otherwise might.

There is an ex-dvla bloke that does the paperwork for (IIRC) around £35. Since you've got an unusual situation it might be worth giving him a call.

Many main stream car manufacturers leave their cars lying arround on airfields for months or even years before selling them on to customers. They get the latest registration plates for the year in which they were first registered. They are "new" even though they may be "old". I can't think of a reason why that would not apply to a kit car.

my aunties father owns a car dealership in Sheffield
and he had an mk1 mr2, which he didn't register

he then got a letter stating if it wasn't registered he would never have it on the road but that was 12 years later,

but that's a production car

Doesn't the reg go from first used date?
