I'm filling in my paper work now.
I think I am ready for my MOT next week (just waiting for the fuel tank to turn up) prior to my SVA test.
If I understand the process correctly the MOT is for the basic car road worthiness stuff, headlights pointing in the correct direction, indicators
work, tread on tyres etc. They don’t look for the same stuff as Mr SVA when it comes to an obsessive search for sharp edges?
I got my chassis number after a visit to my local DVLA centre; do I need the MOT garage to sign the form (v842) to confirm that the chassis number is
attached to the vehicle?
Are you still 'legally' allowed to drive to a pre-booked MOT with third party insurance on the chassis number, obviously with no number
plates or tax disc.
What companies do people recommend for insurance? Do they then let you transfer the insurance from the chassis number to the number plate when you
have passed SVA? How much would you expect to pay?
Lots of simple questions for those who have already trod the path of SVA enlightenment.
Cheers in advance,
The Baron
Why are you getting an MOT?

Simon
Unless you want to have an MOT every year for the first 3 years I wouldn't have one now if I were you.
There is no need to.
Cheers,
James
When I visited my local SVA center, the chap informed my that the MOT is required, prior to the car being presented for SVA?
The new Chris Gibbs book 'Build your own sports car on a Budget' page 121 also quotes the requirement to have a MOT prior to the SVA?
Hi
I did not bother with mot before SVA, you dont have to.
You can drive it with just a chassis number but it must be insured and you need to pre book it in wherever you take it.
I am with Adrian Flux insurance, trailered my car to SVA station and got insurance a few days later (which you need to register the car, along with
the v55) then when dvla send you back your letter of registration number, just let the ins company know and away you go!!
cheers Colin

An MOT is not a bad idea from a 'check it to make sure it's screwed together' front but if you let them enter it into the DVLA computer
(which they don't need to do) you will need to have an MOT ever year from dot. I didn't before my SVA (at Brum) and they acknowledged that
it wouldn't trigger an MOT for three years. That said, as mine has old donor bits in it I'm going to get it MOT'd every year but
again, not in the computer. Some garages will help here - some will not - ask around...
Neil.
No requirement at Brum for me either.
Steve
We had our car MOT'ed before the SVA, it was done on the chassis number. It wasn't needed for the SVA and wasn't presented to either
SVA or DVLA for registration.
It was just for peace of mind really, good job we did as the bottom ball joints didn't have locknuts on.
P.S. Our first MOT is in September, 3 years after SVA.
pretty sure you not covered to drive to mot, only for sva or remedial work following failure
fogetting the insurance part as I drove everywhere
you do not need a !!!!!!!!!!PROPER!!!!!!!!!!!! MOT I REPEAT YOU DONT NEED ONE
your car is basically now a new car your sva is the first thing otherwise youd have to have one every year
by all means have an MOT check up but you dont want the MOT place to enter any of your car details onto the computer

If you have an MOT before SVA or registration IT WILL FAIL! It will not have registration plates and correctly displayed plates are an MOT
requirement.
There fore the garage would be falsifying an MOT certificate for which they could be prosecuted.
Apart from the above it is NOT a requirement on a kit.
It is on a rebuild/modification I believe.
