I have had another conversation with my local SVA centre today and spoke to a different person!
Today A MOT is not a SVA prerequisite. However, when registering the vehicle, the DVLA ‘could’ insist on a MOT before issuing a tax
disc! (Apparently this depends upon what mood the DVLA are in!)
• When registering the vehicle (Form V55/5), I must present the MAC (SVA certificate)
• The Vehicle Identification number form (V842)
• The Built up vehicle inspection report (v627/1) (The vehicle needs to be inspected by the DVLA to conform the engine Number, Chassis number &
origin of parts receipts etc)
• An insurance certificate (based upon chassis number as at this stage I haven’t got a registration number)
• Possibly a MOT certificate.
• A cheque.
& if the gods are with me, I should get a registration number, and a tax disc.
No doubt some people with have done something different as the DVLA don’t seem to really know what their own process is, but this what I have been
told to do today!!!
I’m sure the goal posts will move again, soon!!!

If it's any help, I followed the same process as you and no mention was ever made by VOSA or DVLA of needing an MoT.
OMG- you don't need an MOT for a car that has just passed SVA. The DVLA people say that because they're talking out of their arses...
When the DVLA office demanded an MOT I simply sent them a fax saying
"of course I'll get an MOT. Obviously I'll want to personally check the car over before submitting for MOT to make sure it will pass.
Perhaps you can tell me what an MOT will look at that the SVA doesn't."
Shortly afterwards they decided I didn't need an MOT.....

I spoke to both the DVLA and VOSA about MOT and both said that you don't need one.
TO quote the DVLA bloke I spoke to, after you have SVA'd your car the first MOT required is 1 year after registration if it is a Q or age related
plate, or 3 years if you get a new ('07) plate.
Admitedly both also said that is seemed strange as the SVA doesn't cover MOT stuff - i.e go to SVA with bald tyres and it isn't a fail point
so long as you have the correct speed rated tyres etc...
No MOT required then!

Yup, my age related didn't need MOT. Been on the road 3 years now, just coming up to first MOT.
