sva needed after moving engine?

whats the consensus guys, if you take a FWD car and stick a bike engine in the back, does it need an SVA? Ive searched for old threads and found no definate answer. I feel it will count as a modified bodyshell.

Anyone have a zcars mini on the road?

Theres nothing on the log book to indicate where the engine is, only the engine size, so personally i would take my chances, and send the log book off with a change of cc. Loads of customs knocking about that are radically altered from stock, with no sva .

i was chatting to a guy fromm z cars at autosport show and i asked the question regarding sva and he told me if they converted an old mini then no sva was required but if built from a new shell then sva would be required

It's not really a modified shell is it - technically it is just a change of engine. It does seem to exploit the sva system but just enjoy the loophole while it's there

Which is fine, unless the worst happened and the car was involved in a serious accident

I recently spoke to my local sva station about a new z-cars build and also asked about my old z-cars mini. They told me that in their opinion it would not need an sva, just an mot. Seemed odd as it is a radically altered monocoque but I wasn't going to argue.
I had a z-cars mini pickup on the road but have recently sold it. I've also built a green mini minus z-cars kit for a friend and am currently building another minus for another friend with a gsxr1000 engine. This will be put through an sva as it's a new build and we want it on a new reg. When I build the next one for myself I will also get this sva'd just for peace of mind. They will go through an sva with a few modifications as I know of at least 2 that have already passed. Visit www.theminiforum.co.uk for details of a few more as this has a z-cars section.

But bear in mind that it doesnt really matter what the SVA station thinks.Whether it is correctly registered or not is a DVLA issue...
DVLA essentially decides whether it needs SVA or not- VOSA just conducts the test itself...
