Most people on here probably understand and realise why Q plates are allocated to kitcars but would you buy a tin-top with a Q registration for your own personal use?

Two options......... yes or no

i would say no as no doubt its been a ringer nicked etc etc either dodgy or thrashed within a inch of its life.

cant think of a reason why i'd buy a q plate tin top unless it was a modifyed tin top eg 4x4 etc.

I'd disagree. A ringer/stolen car would almost certainly not have a Q plate as it would draw attention and minimise profit.

I'd be cautious of buying a tintop Q purely as it would make it difficult to sell on.

I actively want a Q reg for the buggy to minimise the hassle of getting visible smoke only emissions tests.

I have had a q plate escort soft top, it was shipped over to germany and converted to diesle and a few other mods.
When the guy brought it back to the uk the dvla deemed it to be made up of different cars i:e engine, box, shafts, hubs & some body panels & mountings so because it had lost it's original id they q plated it.
I had fun in the sun & goldfish in the rain but the car was sound & had to be legit to have got the q in the first place.
Answer is if iot's the right price & in good nick then I would by another.

As long as you appreciate that it often lowers the selling (and therefore buying) price you can often pick up a bargain. Just don't expect to make much on it if selling it on.

i like to think i would, i remeber there used to be a Q reg escort cosworth round my way. always had an ar of mystery around it, and i actually want a Q plate on my pick up. if it ever came down to it though, i doubt i'd buy a car on a Q plate...

so, in answer, no.

If the price is right and the history explained and proven why not?
