Hi all,

can anyone help with a simple explanation of what the cycle wings have to cover at the front... I've got an SVA manual, but can't decypher the legalese...

Done a search but no joy - could have sworn there was a thread about it??

Briefly:

Just make sure the front of the wing is in front of the rim of the wheel (not tyre). Use a plumb bob or summat to check.

And make sure the side of the wing overhangs the side of the tyre.

And cover the edges of the wing with 'U' trim.

Sorry, but there is no requirement for this in the regs.

It may be required by certain SVA centres as "their" requirement, but it aint in the regs. Discussed on here loads of times.

What he said. It's seen as a requirement by some centres, but it's not in the rules, just the leading rim edge and width.

I thought the rear of the cycle wing had to cover the tyre when viewed from directly above. In other words if you bring a set square up behind the tyre it must touch the cycle wing before it touches the tyre.

I agree with the front of the cycle wing having to cover the rim when viewed from above.

I'm with Craig...

The picture below shows one of my front wings - this has passed SVA with no comment. I even took the picture to the test centre prior to my test, just to check!


Wheel side

You'll see that the front is in front of the wheel rim, and the back is behind the back of the tyre.
