Started the Process to register....
nib1980 - 13/8/07 at 11:50 AM

Hi all,

I've started the process to register the car now. as I only have a two things to sort out.

The process as I understand it. (for northampton)

1. Fill in V55/4 (now ordered)
2. Local office contact me for inspection
3. Local office give Vin number
4. Book SVA test
5. Pass SVA test
6. Go back to local office to get reg number plates.

I really hate paperwork, and I can get confused easily with these things. (the missus normally deals with forms) so any comments and help will be appriciated.

many thanks

I don't understand how I can get the VIN number without the MAC, or the MAC without the VIN?

Is there anycompnay that will do this process for you, I am already exceptionally annoyed, I just want to register a car, crikey I work for a company that registaer 400,000 cars a year a lot easier than this

I paid someone £35 to deal with the whole DVLA/SVA paperwork process. It was totally painless.

the linky ^^^ should explain it all.

You cannot get registered until you have the MAC (SVA).

For SVA, you make up your own VIN - write to dvla with your proposed number and altough they cannot reserve it, they cantell you if it is already allocated.

Trust me, all t his paper work seems far harder than it is.

right I've phoned the DVLA again and got throught to a nice helpful person this time call ed Chris.

apparently I can invent the VIN number subject to there rules on number and letter use (anyone know these rules?) for the SVA.

then do the SVA

then fill in V55/5 and V627/1

go the local office for inspection, and registartion, two days later i can get my plates.

that sounds a lot easier and makes more sense to me now

I wrote to local office and they advised what forms to use and how to complete (there weer some Q's that didnt need to be answered). I was lucky in that i was offered a home visit and they brought the forms out to me and explained brilliantly.
