It differs per person/car/centre it seems...

Proof of donor? Chassis number and engine number. Sometimes any other paperwork from the kit manufacturer.

Its all to proof age related or Q reg.

When they came to look at my Striker I pointed out there was no engine number and had never been on the Fiat engine and when I got the V5 it was blank next to the engine number!

At my inspection;
1. My paperwork. Receipts for parts. Donor V5 or receipt to support age related plate application.
2. Does the car look like a car.
3. Do the bits on the car look like they may have come from the donor (in the case of BEC builders even this is wooly!)
4. Chassis number permanently secured to the chassis.

receipts for chassis (or steel/gas if home made).
donor info - v5

receipts for body work (front/rear wings) and any new parts

chassis number, possible engine number

Mostly they seem to be confirming the stuff you put on the forms is consistent with the car presented to them and are accurate on the V5 mainly the VIN/engine numbers (they would probably query things like colour if it was different).

They are also trying to ensure the parts used weren't stolen which is why they want to see receipts for the major parts, though I've never heard of them checking that you didn't just write them yourself. I suspect they might be more thorough if you were registering a rebuilt tintop.

On my inspection the chap looked at the engine number, looked at the front suspension and steering mechanism and asked a fw questions.
was really straight forward, didnt ask for v5 or receipts or anything like that.
Only took about 5 mins!!

Mainly for nicked parts!!!

Chassis and engine number checked against those on the paperwork, and receipts for the major items listed on the V627/1 form. Sight of passport as proof of my ID.

Took all of 10 minutes at home.
