What order do these have to be done in? Not ready for mine yet but it would be nice to know in advance.

Looks like you have it right to me SVA, REG, MOT

No need for any MOT its discussed all the time on here

once youve done your SVA three years later you have an MOT

ReMan - 27/8/07 at 04:17 PM

Is that the same even if you have an age related plate?
Also while we are on the topic, what are the rules on driving to and from SVA?

Yes, even with age-related plates, ours is coming up to 3 years old (from SVA) and almost due it's first MOT.

You must be insured to drive to SVA test, and you must have a test booked. I think you can only drive to your nearest test centre and your car must be roadworthy. We drove from Bradford to Chadderton and back 3 times with no plates, coppers never gave us a second look...

It's been discussed to death before
Trouble is every time a consensus of sorts it reached, someone comes along and say's yea but!...................
My SVA/DVLA/INSURER/TAX MAN/MATE/MATES MATE/GARAGE/MOT MAN/MATE WHO'S A COP/MOTHER/TRAILER HIRE/KIT MANUFACTURE (delete as appropriate) Say's I have to trailer it to SVA and I have to have an MOT first, and MOT is only 1 year
So what day is it today??

We should start a thread of popular misconceptions, deviations and variations

so now the MOT one is out the window as you dont need one

also uncle fiesta is spot on book your SVA or your MOT checkover(not a proper MOT)

and you can insure the car for the day and drive to or from the place your booked into

also the same happened to me no plates police behind me on a few occassions they never showed the slightest bit of concern I was insured though

Make sure you ask for SVA at Nottingham - very helpfull , although it failed on Wednesday but took for retest on Friday, then register at Sheffield, I took my paperwork in Friday at 4.45, inspection arranged for following Wednesday , reg no and tax disc came in post Thursday ! also got age ralated plate - I dont think some DVLA offices will give those on BEC,s . The main delay with the whole thing was waiting for Swansea to pass the SVA request onto Nottingham
