AAAAARGGGGGH Faild Again before i got there
ditchlewis - 4/10/07 at 09:33 AM

Failed again, before i got there.

i set out for Norwich at 6am this morning, all was going well, the speedo was working fine, cold but not raining

got some 50 miles and i was accelerating out of a roundabout and heard a couple of ticks and then the speedo needal just dropped

only 8 miles to go so went on hopeing that i could fix it. got there at 7.45 and stripped the tunnel top off, there was a signal at the sensor but it was on all the time with no magnet in the bottom

the guy there was a top man, he walked up the office and had my test struck off the computer and so nothing to pay top man.

by now the sun is out and things looking brighter

drove home through norwich and had many admiring looks

at one set of lights a girl in a 206 thought she could out accellerate me.... how wrong she was.

a few miles down the road a Audi TT at a round about thought he could pass me on the inside......... wrong he was just a dot in the rear view mirror.

got home with a grin a mile wide

i now know why i built the car and why i must progress to finish it by the way the car was running rough, but when ive got it running good it will be FAAAAAAAAAAAAAST

i now have to order a new sensor 40 quid
have a break from the build (off to madrid for the weekend ANIVERSARY) and reposition the sensor in the back on a drive shaft for a change.

Unlucky!!!!
It'll definitely be worth it when its finished!
Worth making sure the speedo is sorted considering how many speed cameras there are around.

Bad luck.

Unlucky, but once again should be an easy fix!

Yes there were a few on the way back, had to use the other cars as a speed guide

by the time i pass it will have covered 400 miles already.

but it was a fine day and a lot of fun

there is always next time

a trip to halfords or Tesco; pick up a £ 10 bike speedo, wire it up and use that as a back up.

sensor ideally the sort that fits onto 1 spoke - then make a metal disk that fits inside the hole of the drive flange (englsih axle) and wire up sensor.

it will need to be lit up - a couple of 3 mm white LEDS - I can send these to ya, may even make up a small board ready to wire up but won;t be until next week.

unlucky.
I fitted my first sensor on the front of the propshaft and it wouldn't read or knocked the magnets off and destroyed itself in the process. Fitted the second one at the rear of the propshaft and it worked a treat and still is 3000 miles later.

Ditch,

Have you walked under a few dozen ladders in the past year or so?

The Force isn't with you at the moment...

ditchlewis - 4/10/07 at 06:00 PM

no ladders, just ran over a couple of black cats

i was supprised that the sensor was hit, because the diff is fixed and not moving, there must be some play in the diff

is the bike sensor a real option???

how would the sva man feel????

Bad luck Ditch. I drove up the A140 yesterday and there is one less speed camera there now, someone has kindly set the one at Stonham alight.

SVA man is ok with it; if it can be read and is illuminated when the side lightsw come one, ti meets the requirements.

I fitted mine to the steering cowl behind the steering wheel - it is visible through the spokes.

I don't like it - prefer ad dial rather than numbers - so have bitten the bullet and ordered an electronic speedo (yep, thrown in the towel with making my own)
