demister
rell - 22/9/03 at 10:05 AM

For the sva you need to have a demister on the windscreen.
Im going to be having a flat bottomed locost so the engine bay is going to be sealed.
can i duct the air from the engine bay up infront of the windscreen and say that will demist the windsreen (which it would i think?)
will this idea pass the test or not and has eney one tryed it.

the sva demist requires that the screen has enough air to clear it and the test is done statically so unless you plan to have a fan assist it won't pass

dam heated screen it is

why not try one of the small lecy demister blowers

If we go for a windscreen I'm definitely looking into electrical demisters after what happened to hicost..

put the fear of water into me.

the little lecy demister's you see in those cheap mail order catalogues are great. Stuck them in my friends mini and they demisted the windscreen in seconds. Beats waiting for the engine to warm up before they work.

I've thought about ducting air from around the exhaust manifold too, so when your moving you can switch the heaters off.

Hmmmm, dodgy ground ducting engine bay air into the cabin,

Leaky manifold = Sleepy = crash

Be o.k. in a locost though, no roof.

yours, Pete.

Colin,

"Hmmmm, dodgy ground ducting engine bay air into the cabin"

It's how they did it on aircooled cars - just ensure manifold is sound, make a box around it with a fresh air supply (external) and some sort of blower!

Call it a heat exchanger

Pete, if soft enought to want a heater then a roof has sure to follow suit!

I come from the land where the men wear skirts and no undercrackers, we know what cold is, no heaters for us must ba a southern jessie thing going on!

1. Go to SVA with no windscreen at all.
2. Pass SVA.
3. THEN worry about screen, demisters, wipers, squirters, etc!!

You never know, you might like it windowless (get a helmet though!!), or grab an areoscreen (£20).

With an aeroscreen, do you still get rocks and bugs in your face?

Simon - 22/9/03 at 03:08 PM

My aerosreen is attached to my bashhat so s/be ok

sound a bit poo coming avon or littlewoods

rell - 22/9/03 at 03:43 PM

Had an idea would tape heating work if you run it along the bottom of the windscreen to heat up the glass ?

Simon - 22/9/03 at 03:57 PM

Rell,

Basically it's a 12v hairdryer that a) runs off electricity rather than using hot water, and b) looks nothing like a hairdryer.

Car Builder Solutions do one for about £24

It's about 6-8" wide so may need some ducting to clear entire screen- or a second one!

You do indeed (I wear a helmet for that reason plus the tears you get over 50 mph make you blind!), but suspect you would with a full screen anyway.
