Will this set be ok to stamp my chassis number with?

Paul , when I stamped my chassis number I found the square tubes tend to deform easily so I stamped the top of diff mounting plate . Leaves a clearer imprint without damage.

I was thinking about this, so planned to stamp the steel bulk head pannel passenger side in the engine bay and the floor inside the car.

you might struggle stamping the firewall.

from experience, if the panel can bounce at all, it'll usually just sort of clang, scratch the powdercoat, but make no impression in the steel. you need something big and heavy behind it if this is the case.

i had a few problems stamping my Vin number on to my car, first i tried to stamp it on a steel panel in the engine bay and only succeeded in denting it then I stamped it on the passenger foot well floor after supporting the panel from below , only to be told that it was a "floor pan"even though it is steel and welded to the space frame finally I had to stamp the number onto a piece of steel that I then welded to a frame tube in the cockpit.
I had to have it in numbers at least 8mm high so I had to buy some rather expensive dies...
Anyone interested in having their numbers stamped on a piece of steel for welding to their chassis for a small fee?

I got a set from Screwfix, they've done a few now and all passed inspection with no problem.

Borrowed my punch set from the crime prevention cop and yes i did give it back

MM do a 4 mm punch set, for about a tenner if I recall correctly this is minimum for chassis. I think I measured the letters and they are a bit less than 4 mm. I cannot imagine anyone getting a micrometer to measure the height unless they look small.

I stripped pain of chassis and stamped on the VIN, then put finger into a tin of black paint and smeer over so the paint fillt the recess then paint over with clear laquer.

If you want to do a neat job, then make a template with holes drilled in some steel plate that are big enough for the punch to get trhough so you can neatly align the letters - pretty sure I posed about this, unfortunatley this brillo idea occured to me after I'd done my chassis plate.

It's easier to stamp them evenly if you do it back to front.
