Rather confusing question
tegwin - 24/1/08 at 06:06 PM

In sent off my form for the SVA about a week ago....This morning I got a letter asking for the vehicle design weights, various numbers and a load of photographs showing it being built...

But here is where I am confused...

I bought the car part built (I have a receipt), I stripped it down to component level and started again almost from scratch.....

So, technically I could choose either of these options:

3. The vehicle was built by myself and individuals acting on my behalf, none of whom are in the buisness of building vehicles and is to be registered in my name

4. The vehicle was partially built by an individual for his/her own personal use and I purchased the vehicle in a partly completed condition...

Is there any benefit/advantage from choosing one or the other?

And also, how many photos do they want, and of what?

They want some receipts...I have a mountain over an inch thick.....do I send them all of them, or just a select few?

I cannot answer your first question but regarding the photographs I just sent three showing the car in different stages of completion. I also sent copies of invoices covering the major purchases such as the kit, engine gearbox and axle. This was all returned to me in a sealed envelope by Byron (the Exeter Tester) during SVA. When I told him what I had had to send he was amazed and said I cannot imagine what they wanted it for, they are totally non technical and would not have a clue what they were looking at.

Best of luck with SVA when it comes round.

dunno if it helps but I was in same postion but did not strip down as far as you.

I think I put it was built by me as I thought that possible choosing the other option would raise more question about who did what and when.

I did not have to supply photos nor prove who built what other than receitps for the chassis which in my case was gas and steel.

In you case, since you are being asked fro photo, I would go for the second option and give photos, now if you don;t have photos

OR ring the office, tell them the situation and ask them what they suggest you do.

You built the car yourself.

A selection of pics to show build stages done by you should suffice.

I didnt have to supply pics or receipts so not sure what paperwork they will need. Id copy some and send as DVLA will want to see them too, it wont be good if any key reciepts get lost.
