Can anyone make me some VIN plates?
tegwin - 12/2/08 at 10:48 PM

Does anyone have a set of letter and number stamps (4mm or bigger) who would be willing to stamp my VIN onto three bits of steel plate and then stick them in the post to me?

Beer tokens await

but unless you have an ally chassis, (and no, don't anyone ask if you can have one, you can't!) you won't be able to weld it on.

i stamped the chassis tube but i guess that doesn't help if you don't have stamps

My main VIN is stamped onto ali, which was then riveted and glued to the chassis (with PU).

The DVLA man was happy with that, but he did ask me to stamp the number in a second location, directly onto the tubing.

I wouldnt want to try and stamp it onto the chassis...Its a very weird grade of stainless and might object.

Coozer, thanks for the offer Will U2U you later once I get home and find the correct number.

Idealy the plate needs to be long enough to be able to drill holes either end and plug weld it onto the chassis.

What thickness would you recomend?

(Any chance of two? One for the engine bay, and one to be hidden somewhere else?)

I have all sorts of bits of steal here I can utilise.

Any amount you want, no problem....

The bit I'm looking at on me desk ATM is about 60X17X3mm. Would that be OK with 4mm holes in each end??

This will probably sound like a stupid question but who allocates the Chassis No. ? Is it done on SVA, DVLA registration, Donor car etc...???

I allocated my own chassis number...

So far no-one has said anything....

However, I suspect that as soon as I have the VIN plates welded to the chassis, the DVLA will phone me up and want to change the number...

Anything that will wind me up seems to be fair game to them!
