Heatshrink or Amalgamating Tape
mistergrumpy - 7/3/08 at 05:57 PM

I'v two wires running to the back for the fuel pump. I'm planning on running them in a convuluted tube to behind the seats but from there on do I have to wrap it in tape or can I get away with heatshrink?

i'd personally run them in unshrunk heatshrink or in plastic sleeve.

you'll probably never need to strip them out of the loom again, but if you do and they're heatshrinked, it's a pita.

also, taping two wires together isn't easy option either.

I have been trying to run all my wires in convuluted tube. I think it looks neater and keeps the wires well protected. Plus if you need to access them at a later date, you just pull the tube off again.

When I wire my cars I seal all joins using heat shrik or self almagmaging tape. The complete route in loom tape and then convuluted tube on top of any areas that are exposed to the elements etc.

Cheers. The main loom will be wrapped in amalgamating tape where I've messed. (Though the majority of it seem to be in electrical tape from manufacturer) Then it will go in tubing as far as. It just seemed excessive to tape the two wires in amalgamating tape and that stuff ain't cheap.

There's a different between loom tape and normal electrical tape...

Sam tape and heatshrink is good and mostly waterproof but a PITA to remove as someone else said...
