Another Tintop MOT question
tom windmill - 10/3/08 at 03:58 PM

Hi All,

I have the MOT coming up on my polo GTI in the next couple of days and the airbag light has been on ever since I bought the car.

VW want 86 quid for the reset and i dont have VAGCOM and the lead so does anyone know if my car will still pass the MOT?

Many thanks Tom

you could do what I did with my Volvos maintaince light...take out the bulb

tom windmill - 10/3/08 at 04:05 PM

always an option i suppose
admittadly its probably not the safest option driving around with the airbag light on and i should really go and get it sorted.

Airbags form no part of the MOT,
I would issue a manual advisory on this item .

why?

maintenance bulb is not part of MOT.

Chances are it uses the same diagnostic system as 850 - I can tell you magic sequence to extinguish the bulb.

ABS lamp coming on or disconnected is MOT fail.

What he said ^^^^^^^ I concur!

Careful with taking the bulb out, I did that on a Merc C200 and the engine wouldn't run without it......

Did my MOT 3 day refresher last week and this was brought up.
As said, not testable, Pass and advise.

i had the same deal recently on a 206,i thought take the bulb out but was advised it may well not run at all with the light removed-i chanced it and everything worked ok for me,well i did px it in only a few days later-thinking about it might have forgotten to tell the dealer that

How about getting it fixed just in case you need it. I know it's not cheap but I would prefer to have it save me in a crash...Also what happens if you have a crash and it does fail to work, does the insurance company refuse to pay if you get hurt?

Boring old fart I might be but when you see as many M25 accidents as I do you begin to value things different.
